Most sites make you sign up to read anything. I find that irritating, so I did not do it.
Visiting costs nothing and unlocks nothing, because nothing is locked. The blog, the boards, the shop — all readable without an account.
A free account
lets you take part: post, reply, react, get a profile and a signature, send direct messages. That is the whole point of a forum, so it would be strange to charge for it.
